Madurai, Nov 24: PMK founder has claimed that 14 railway projects planned for Tamil Nadu have been cancelled and termed it as a backward step. Railways had cancelled 160 projects in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka. But the cost and importance of the projects cancelled in Tamil Nadu were more, PMK founder leader, Dr S Ramadoss said in a statement here.
Projects worth Rs 19,500 crore have been cancelled in Tamil Nadu, he said, adding it was ironical projects started by railways have to be cancelled by them on the ground that they had not even been initiated.
"It is the duty of the railway ministry to implement the projects started by them and if at all any one should be punished for non-initiation of action..it should be officials of the ministry and not the people of Tamil Nadu" he said. He urged the railway ministry not to cancel the projects and instead expedite their implementation.
