PM Narendra Modi's remarks on Indian Muslims lauded; Congress cornered

New Delhi, Sept 19: PM Narendra Modi gave a befitting response to all those who had painted his image as a communal person, during his first ever international interview.

In an exclusive with Fareed Zakaria on CNN, PM Modi said, "My understanding is that they are doing injustice towards the Muslims of our country. If anyone thinks Indian Muslims will dance to their tune, they are delusional. Indian Muslims will live for India, they will die for India - they will not want anything bad for India."

After his laudable statement, the reactions poured in not only from the BJP leaders, but also from many Muslim leaders, leaving Congress cornered.

As per a report published in CNN IBN, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said, "Indian Muslims don't need a certificate from anyone. Modi is saying this as he is going to US where he was keen to get a visa. There is sizeable Muslim population in US."

However, the Muslim leaders took Modi's remarks in a very supportive way.

Cleric Mufti Mukarram was quoted as saying, "We welcome what PM Modi has said. PM's remarks are a reply to those accusing us of love jihad. PM's remarks are a reply to those trying to create a rift."

Modi's trusted Muslim advisor, Zafar Sareshwala said, "What Modi is thinking about Muslims is nothing new. We knew about it earlier and now the entire world knows it. Modi's statement is a big slap on the face of the Muslims who used to question Modi's views about Muslims."

Meanwhile, BJP's Muslim leaders- Shahnawaz Hussain and Union Minister of Minority Affairs Najma Heptullah, too hailed Modi's pro-Muslim remarks at a global platform.

Here's how Twitterati reacted to PM Modi's remark, "Indian Muslims will live for India, they will die for India":
