PM, Prez, Vice President greet nation on Janmashtami

New Delhi, Aug 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari on Sunday greeted the nation on the occasion of Janmashtami.

"Greetings on Janmashtami! May Lord Krishna bless our lives with peace, prosperity and happiness," he tweeted.

"On the joyous occasion of Janmashtami, I convey greetings and good wishes to all my fellow countrymen," President Pranab Mukherjee said in his message.

"On this auspicious festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, let us strive to build a world free from malice and full of brotherhood and compassion," he said.

"May Lord Krishna's noble message of righteous conduct and action inspire each and every one of us to strengthen the moral foundations of our society and strive selflessly to take our country to new heights," the president said.

"I convey my warm greetings and good wishes to the citizens of our country on the joyous occasion of Janmashtami... Lord Krishna's message of performing our duties with sincerity and devotion, without attachment to the results of our actions, remains a pertinent principle for salvation of humanity," Vice President Hamid Ansari said in his message.

He said on the occasion, people should resolve to rededicate themselves to the teachings of Lord Krishna to build a peaceful, enlightened and just society. Janmashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna.
