Paycheck India, a website managed by Prof Biju Varkkey of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, has listed the salaries of most influential political leaders around the world.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev tops the list with whooping salary of Rs 1.6 crore per month followed by US President Barack Obama who earns Rs 19 lakh per month.
PM Modi's 'modest' salary is followed by 3 other world political leaders including President Pranab Mukherjee who earns Rs 18 lakh annually, Afghan President Hamid Karzai earns Rs 31,029 and French President Francois Hollande earns a 'meagre' salary of Rs 14,910 (Rs 715 daily).
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Belgium PM Elio Di Rupo, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ireland PM Enda Kenny, UK PM David Cameron, Netherlands PM Mark Rutte, South Korean ex president Lee Myung Bak, Turkey PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Chinese President Xi Jinping are among top earners.
Modi's basic salary is Rs 50,000, with a sumptuary allowance of Rs 3,000, a daily allowance of Rs 62,000 and constituency allowance of Rs 45,000.
As per an RTI query in 2013 regarding Indian prime minister's salary, it was revealed that the PM also receives perks like personal staff, special jet, government residence, and much more.
