Lucknow, Sept 10: While curfew remained and shoot at sight order also remained at place in Muzaffarnagar, opposition parties-led by BJP raised demand for President Rule in riot-hit Uttar Pradesh. Despite all security measures, violence spread to the neighbouring districts of Shamli and Meerut.

Army has been deployed in the district where 31 people have been killed so far in the violence which broke out on Saturday, Sept 7. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde claimed that he had warned UP CM Akhilesh Yadav regarding the possible violence in the city.

The home minister also overruled the demand of imposing president rule in the state saying that the Centre would observe the condition of district(s) and would take final decision later.

Akhilesh Yadav, meanwhile, claimed that riots were political conspiracies to destabilize his government. A BJP legislator was booked for promoting religious enmity. Sangeet Som was accused of who circulating a fake video which had triggered communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar. The accused, however, evaded arrest repeatedly.
