A Times of India report said that the jail officials on Sunday had got a tip off that some of the inmates had hatched a conspiracy to attack officers on the occasion of 'Parkash Utsav' (birth anniversary) of Guru Gobind Singh on Tuesday when they would have been freed from their barracks to pay obeisance at the jail gurdwara.
Acting on the information jail security staff led by assistant jail superintendent IS Kahlon were conducting search when they were attacked by a group of seven inmates.
Of the seven inmates involved in the alleged attack, one is convicted while the rest are facing trial.
During the routine search, the staffers found a cellphone battery and some wires from one of the inmates. The moment they reached the central barracks, the search team was attacked by the group of seven inmates who intentionally tried to hit the officers on the head, using the iron rods which they got from the jail gymnasium.
