Chennai, Feb 5: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam kept everyone guessing on Sasikala Natarajan's elevation to replace him. Panneerselvam who visited the Ennore port to take stock of clean up operations of the Chennai oil spill chose to respond to questions on Sasikala with nothing more than a conspicuous smile.
Panneerselvam stands to lose a lot on a personal level if Sasikala indeed takes over as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Huge decisions are expected to be taken in the AIADMK MLAs' meet on Sunday. The party has always had one person leading the government as well as the party as against the dual power centre situation that is currently prevailing. The meet is likely to put an end to the same.
Meanwhile, Panneerselvam who visited the Ennore port said that clean up may take more days. He also reiterated that consumption of sea food was safe. "Centre and the state government are working together and over 5700 people are helping in the clean up. Fishermen who have lost their livelihood will be compensated. Fish from the region is safe for consumption," he said.
Panneerselvam also denied any negative impact of oil spill on marine life and claimed that about 90 percent of spill from Tiruvallur and 95 percent spill in Chennai have been cleared.
