'Ordinance was demeaning to judiciary'
New Delhi, Oct 3: The Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar on Thursday said that "ordinance was demeaning to the judiciary."

While talking to a news channel, Sri said, "more fabric of the country could have been destroyed if it became a law."

He also said that the way the ordinance has been withdrawn was demeaning to the government and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has been insulted.

The controversial ordinance that was passed by the cabinet last week for protecting the convicted lawmakers, was denunciated by the Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Sept 27 as well as by the main opposition BJP.

The ordinance was a reversal of the Supreme Court's judgment.

The ordinance was a reversal of the Supreme Court's judgment that disqualified any convicted MLA or MP from contesting elections.

After meeting with criticism from its own party members, the Congress had to bury the ordinance that was meant to protect convicted politicians.
