Ordinance, a Pandora's box; another Congress MLA charged for rape
The woman further claims that the minister had forced her for abortion thrice. Given such circumstances, the woman appealed that she be given the status of his wife.
Ex-Congress MLA Babu Lal Nagar, who was the Minister of State for Dairy and Khadi was accused of rape by a woman and tendered his resignation on Thursday, Sept 26 on the same pretext. The Governor of Rajasthan accepted the resignation the very next day.
Per Nagar, "I have resigned on moral grounds so that an impartial probe can be carried out as I am not guilty in the alleged case. The charge against me is totally unfounded. It is the handiwork of my political rivals."
A woman had alleged that Nagar had promised her a job and had asked her to come to his house. On some pretext, he took her to his bedroom and raped her. After this shameful act, he threatened her of dire consequences, if she complained to anyone.
The Sodala Police station had booked Nagar for allegedly raping, threatening and beating up the woman. After the case has been registered under various charges under the IPC, i has been referred to the crime branch as it involved a sitting MLA.
Increasing number of such cases relating Congress ministers are coming into view just after the row over the Ordinance on convicted MLAs. This raises one vital question: Does Congress really need a shield now?
