Escalating the attack on the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday asked as to why the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led party was looking for an alliance if everything was fine?
Mayawati has been trying to corner the SP over Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's statement that an SP-Congress alliance would fetch them 300 plus seats in the upcoming assembly polls. There are 403 seats in the UP assembly, for which polling would be held in 2017.
"Sab thik chal rha hai to inko (SP) gathbandhan ki zarurat kyun padd rahi hai. Kamzor ko hi saahare ki zarurat hoti hai (If everything was fine then why are in need of alliance? Only the weak need support)," news agency ANI quoted Mayawati as saying.
The BSP supremo on Tuesday took a jibe at SP over Lok Sabha elections defeat and said the ruling party was in bad shape after 2014 polls defeat. She had earlier pointed out that the internal squabble in the SP would benefit the BJP.
Akhilesh and Mayawati have exchanged several epithets in their verbal duel ahead of the polls. While Yadav reffers to her as buaji and behenji, the latter calls him babua.
The BSP could not win a single seat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP swept UP winning with 71 out of 80 seats in the state.
