Online petition to provide free education for children of martyrs goes viral
In the wake of the Uri terror strike, an online petition to provide free education for children of martyrs has gone viral.
In Kashmir's Uri sector, 18 Indian soldiers were killed by Pakistan-based terrorists recently.
The petition on change.org has been filed by Pune-based activist Maryada Prasad. It is addressed to the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar and Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi.
The petition will be submitted to the three ministers after it gets 75,000 signatories. Till now, the viral petition has been signed by more than 60,000 people.
"Martyrs' families are losing their sole bread earner in order to save our lives. We can lead safe, secure lives because of them. If Indian government leaders, or any Indian is sleeping peacefully then the credit goes only to these soldiers," says the petition.
"It is the Indian government's foremost duty to help the children of India's martyrs graduate, i.e. provide them free of cost education. Their sacrifice is priceless. These kids have no one to support their dreams, they've lost their fathers so that India could be safe," the petition adds.
The petition says providing a one-time compensation is not enough, rather it's an insult to their sacrifice. These children deserve constant support in order to give wings to their dreams.
