Kanpur, July 27: What will you do if you suddenly found Rs 95,000 crore in your bank account? Many may go mad, but a woman in Kanpur kept herself calm and decided to check the reality with her bank.
Urmila Yadav, who works as a domestic help in Kanpur, was shocked when she received two messages from State Bank of India (SBI). While the first message showed her SBI account was credited with Rs 9,99,999, the other message showed that Rs 9.97 lakh had been deducted.[Pics: Who are the Indians who are named in Forbes' list of world's 100 most powerful women]
The woman could not understand the meaning of the two messages as she did not make any transactions. She earlier had opened the bank account with Rs 2,000.
She later checked everything with bank officials and received another shocking information. The bank officials informed the woman that her bank account was credited with Rs 95,000 crore.
Explaining everything, a senior bank official was quoted as saying that Urmila's bank account was credited with such big amount following a process undertaken to freeze a dormant account. As Urmila did not maintain her bank account with adequate balance for some time, it had become a dormant account.
However, experts claimed that a bank cannot credit or debit any amount without the consent of the account holder. Urmila, meanwhile, said that she was only concerned about her Rs 2,000. The SBI officials, however, informed Urmila that her account was activated again and Rs 2,000 is still there.
