Odisha government humiliated police officer: BJP
Bhubaneswar, July 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday accused Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led Odisha government of humiliating an honest and efficient officer in the state.

Odisha's BJP spokesperson Sameer Mohanty said the state government humiliated senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Prakash Mishra by sending him to an insignificant position.

Mohanty said Mishra is known for his success in controlling Left- wing extremism in the state. The officer's contribution in modernisation of the police force and the traffic system is also an example, the spkesperson said in a statement.

Urging the Patnaik government to allow Mishra to move to Delhi, Mohanty said: "It is most unfortunate that the state government which recommended his (Mishra's) name for central (government) deputation has withdrawn it later."

Mishra, 58, is a 1977-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) Odisha cadre officer. He was short-listed last year for appointment as special director in the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Media reports said Home Minister Rajnath Singh had spoke to Patnaik to inform him of Mishra's selection as special secretary for internal security in the central government.

The state too recommended his name in December 2013, but changed its decision May 28 when it wrote to the central government seeking withdrawal of its recommendation.

Appointed director general of police in July 2012, the state government removed him from the post July 5 and posted him as chairman and managing director of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation.
