The Supreme Court on Friday said that talks should take place with stakeholders in Kashmir, but also warned that nothing would work if the secession is sought. The SC also said that it would direct the CRPF to stop using the pellet guns for two weeks only if there is an assurance that there will be no stone pelting.

While hearing a petition the court asked the Jammu and Kashmir high court Bar Association to suggest a peace roadmap and place the same before the government.

The SC also sought to know how will peace be restored if people in Kashmir continued to throw stones. The SC asked the J&K Bar Association to get names of people who can hold talks with the centre for a resolution in the state.

The Centre, however, told the court that it is not willing to speak with those who talk of azadi and also the separatists. The Bar Association wanted talks to be held with the Hurriyat Conference without the condition that it must be within the framework of the Constitution.

The Centre said that it would talk to those persons who are legally permitted to conduct dialogue on behalf of the people. The SC noted that it would direct the Centre to hold talks only if there is a first step from the people whose cause the Bar Association is espousing. The matter has been posted to May 9 with a directive to the Bar Association to come back with a suggestion.
