Note Ban: Assam’s first ATM kiosk in a tea garden is a hit among workers
The ATM kiosk, inaugurated on Monday, is already a hit among the workers of the tea garden.
Guwahati, Nov 29: Earlier they had to travel several kilometers to withdraw money from an ATM or a bank.
Now, an ATM kiosk is just a few steps away from their homes.
The tea garden workers of Dholaguri in Golaghat district of Assam are elated that now they don't have to trudge miles to withdraw money.
The ATM kiosk, inaugurated on Monday, is already a hit among the workers of the tea garden.
In fact, Dholaguri became the first garden in Assam to get an ATM, post the Centre's demonetisation move.
The move to have the machine there has been prompted by the government's demonetisation of high-value currency notes.

The garden, spread over 538 hectares, has a total labour force of 1,372 people and produces nearly 8 lakh kg of tea on its own.
According to The Telegraph, the move comes after Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently announced a slew of measures to make Assam "cashless and digital" in a time-bound manner.
The ATM has been installed by the State Bank of India (SBI).
