The police, who were tight-lipped on the case so far, said on Monday that evidence was still being examined and all angles being probed.
"The question doesn't arise as the probe is on. Let the investigation get over," said BS Bassi, police commissioner, on being asked if they had given clean chit to Tharoor.
Evidence are still being examined, said Delhi police
Recent reports said that Sunanda's viscera report stated that no trace of the anti-anxiety drug, Alprax, was found in her stomach. This contradicts the autopsy report which had categorically mentioned drug poisoning as the cause of death.
Empty strips of Alprax were found from suit number 345 in Leela Palace Hotel, where she was found dead on January 17. The viscera report has complicated the probe.
"From the circumstantial evidence collected so far and from the statement of witnesses, there is no reason for us to proceed in any other direction. Therefore, we are carrying on our inquiries under Section 174 of CrPC," Bassi said.
The sub-divisional magistrate, who was informed about the report, had directed the Delhi Police to investigate if Sunanda had killed herself or had been murdered.
Police are also looking into the autopsy report which mentioned over a dozen injury marks on Sunanda's hands and an abrasion on her cheek which suggests a "use of blunt force", besides a "deep teeth bite" on the edge of her left palm.
