No personal rivalry:

Prima facie it does not appear that the motive behind the incident was personal rivalry. A source said that he was part of some very high profile investigations and this is one of the reasons we are looking into which may have caused the incident.

The NIA is probing a high profile case at Bijnor which involved an accidental blast triggered off by three alleged operatives of the SIMI.

There are a host of other terror cases in UP and the neighbouring states which are being probed by the NIA. The officer was part of some of these cases. The IG (Law and order) of UP, Bhagwan Swaroop informed OneIndia that the incident occurred at around 12.45 AM on Sunday. His car was stopped by two persons on a motor cycle and the officer was shot dead.

Several officers in the NIA informed that he was a brave officer. There is very little possibility of personal rivalry being the motive. He was a friendly officer and never antagonised anyone. However, he was an extremely strict officer and exceptionally good at his job, his colleagues informed.
