New Delhi, March 31: Considering the glory of late prime minister P V Narasimha Rao, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Centre is planning to built a memorial honour for the man, who is known as the architect of India's economic reforms.

A proposal regarding the matter was moved last week by the Union Urban Development ministry for the approval of Union cabinet. According to reports, the memorial will be constructed at the Ekta Sthal Samadhi Complex in the national capital.

The primary initiative to built a memorial for the late prime minister was undertaken by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who is an ally of NDA.

According to an Indian Express report, the move which was orchestrated by NDA ally TDP, is being seen as an attempt to embarrass the Congress leadership which completely disowned Rao. It had even forced his family to perform his last rites in Hyderabad.

The political parties in Telangana, both the TDP and TRS have always given proper recognition to Narasimha Rao. Telangana, which was formed on June 2, 2014 had celebrated the birthday of Narasimha Rao on June 28 as a state event.

The resolution on the construction to build a memorial for Rao was moved by TDP in last October.

Ekta Sthal also houses the memorial of late Congress leader Giani Zail Singh.

The demands for separate memorials were blocked by the then Congress led-UPA government in May 2013 and the cabinet also decided to set up a common memorial ground - Rashtriya Smriti - in view of paucity of space.
