Naseeruddin Shah inaugurates AMU's World Alumni Meet
Aligarh (UP), Oct 18: Noted actor Naseeruddin Shah on Sunday inaugurated the two-day World Alumni Meet organised by Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in which 600 delegates from different countries took part.
In his address, Shah said he owed to AMU for nurturing his talent as a performing artist and he felt that payback time has now come.
"I would like to announce my unconditional assistance to my alma mater for helping talented students interested in performing arts," he said.
Recalling his student days at AMU, the actor said, "Had I not been encouraged by teachers, I would have never entered the field of theatre and film."
Noted cardiologist Dr Ashok Seth said, "Whenever the University needs my assistance in developing AMU Medical College as a centre of excellence in the field of cardiology, I will help it."
Stating that AMU had a critical role to play in Muslim community affairs, retired civil servant Javed Usmani said, "The university is open to all without any discrimination on the basis of caste and religion. It remains a beacon of hope to young people from the Muslim community."
A sum of about Rs 1 crore as donations was made by participants of the inaugural function. The two-day Meet concludes tomorrow evening.
