Narendra Modi
New Delhi, May 6: In a twist to controversial snoopgate case involving Narendra Modi, the woman on Tuesday, May 6 defended Gujarat government in the Supreme Court. She told the apex court that she was grateful for the surveillance, which she said she had sought for her own safety.

The woman, who was allegedly spied upon, moved the court and filed a petition urging the court not to allow any probe in the case. Her father, meanwhile, urged the Supreme Court to restrict media to cover the case.

Thankful to the Gujarat government for taking steps on a personal request

In their petition, the woman along with her father said that they were "thankful to the Gujarat government" for taking steps on a "personal request". These were "safety measures", "not only within their knowledge but fully justified", they said.

Earlier, Congress minister Kapil Sibal confirmed that they would not conduct any probe in the case as "Congress does not want to upset its allies in UPA".

Sibal was quoted as saying, "Our allies said it seems like political vendetta. That's fine. We don't want to give an impression that our government is into political vendetta."
