Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) now accused Congress-led central government of influencing the channel to edit a portion of the interview. However, Congress overruled such allegations.
Earlier it was reported that Modi, during the interview, said Priyanka Gandhi is like his daughter. Reacting against Modi's reported remark, Congress President Sonia Gandhi's daughter said, "I am Rajiv Gandhi's daughter."
Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram too said, "I am happy that Modi considers Priyanka Gandhi as his daughter, but am not sure if she will be happy to consider Modi as a father figure."
If she doesn't do it for her brother, whom will she do it for?
But, now it has been cleared Modi's statement in the interview was misquoted. According to the video, released by Modi's office, the Gujarat CM had said, "I don't take these things seriously. Any sister will do anything to ensure her brother's victory. A daughter will do anything for her mother's victory. I agree with that, a daughter is a daughter. If she doesn't do it for her own mother, whom will she do it for? If she doesn't do it for her brother, whom will she do it for? I will never take offence of anything she says as a daughter? It is her right that she works hard for her mother."
He was also seem commenting on Gujarat Congress leader Ahmed Patel. Modi said, "Ahmedbhai is among the best friends I have in Congress but not now... I had a good friendship with him and would have preferred that it had remained so... but he now runs away from me and doesn't take my calls."
However, the Congress leader refused to accept Modi's statement saying if Modi could prove his statements right, he would take political sanyas.
