Davanagere, Feb 18: BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi addressed 'Bharatha Gellisi' rally in Davangere where he criticised the Congress of ignoring farmer issues and women's safety.

2.06 pm: Modi accuses Congress of ignoring farmer issues

"This land was known for its textiles once, what happened now? Our farmers will be winners. I must congratulate Yeddyurappaji for presenting a different budget for agriculture," he said.

Praising the people of Karnataka, Modi said that 'you have given me a lot of love. Now you must send a lotus from every seat.'

2.00 pm: Narendra Modi rakes up 'pepper spray' incident

Bringing up the 'pepper spray' incident that took place in the Parliament, Modi said: "Congress is responsible for the chaos in the Parliament. Yeh pehle logon ke aankhon mein dhool jhonkte the, ab mirchi daalte hai (First they used to tell lies to the people, now they are using pepper in their eyes).

1.50 pm: Let our mothers sleep in peace says Modi

Launching a scathing attack on Congress, Modi said that in order to give security to women the Congress first must ensure that price rise must come down so that 'our mothers can sleep peacefully.

"Delhi has become the rape capital. Pick up the newspaper and you see everyday at least one girl being raped. Congress has ignored women's safety completely. Tell the people how many of your leaders are in jail in Rajasthan and for what reasons," Modi said.

"Congress and corruption are twins. Wherever Congress goes corruption follows. Congress alleges that BJP has stood in the way of various bills. They should at least speak the truth in front of the people. People know now. Look at the situation of the Parliament," he said.

1.40 pm: Modi attacks Congress party

Narendra Modi criticised the Congress saying that the party's arrogance is sky high. "Nation knows for years that the Congress party has no trace of democracy. Democracy has four enemies- dynasty, casteism, communalism and oppurtunism," he said.

"I will tell you the way Congress thinks and the way BJP thinks. A Congress leader once said that India is like a beehive, for us India is like our mother, our bharath mata. We we hear about the poor we do not sleep," he said.

"You (Congress) think have to save satta (power), we think how to save the country. Money doesn't grow on trees. It grows on the farmers lands," he said.

1.27 pm: Modi addresses the crowd in Kannada

Addressing the crowd, Modi said that people who were under the harsh sun their efforts won't go unnoticed. Taking a dig at Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Modi said that people of Seemandhara were suffering and they didnt have the time to go visit them, when the people need their support.

"Congress party is bothered only about power (satta), they are not bothered about the pain and sufferring of the people in Seemandhara. Those who are not bothered about you, we must worry about them," he said.

1.20 pm: BS Yeddyurappa addresses the crowd

Former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa addressed the crowd here. Yeddyurappa hailed Modi as the next prime minister.

1.13 pm: Ananthkumar addresses the crowd

BJP leader Ananthkumar addressed the crowd and said that when people chant Modi, Modi, they mean 'I love India.'

1.00 pm: Narendra Modi arrives, to address the rally shortly

Narendra Modi arrives at the venue. Along with him other BJP leaders like Ananthkumar, BS Yeddyurappa are also present.

12.36 pm: Narendra Modi arrives in Davanagere

BJP leaders addressing the crowd in Davanagere said that Narendra Modi had arrived in Davanagere and will be addressing the rally shortly.

Security has been beefed up ahead of his rally.
