Narendra Modi faces jail while #SelfieWithModi rocked Twitter
The Election Commission asked Gujarat government to take action against Modi over his press conference near a polling booth in Gandhinagar, Gujarat when the state went to poll. The EC also asked the Gujarat administration to file FIR against those media organisations which attended Modi's press conference.
Election Commission has told the Gujarat government to take action against Modi under section 126 1(b) of the Representation of People's Act. The section of the law prevents the holding of a press meet within 48 hours before polling had ended. If a candidate is found guilty of displaying the party symbol or election material, the candidate can face upto two years in jail and a fine or both.
The Congress earlier moved the EC urging it to disqualify the Gujarat CM's candidature from both Vadodara and Varanasi, as the BJP leader flashed a lotus symbol during a press interaction near a polling booth.
Meanwhile, Modi's selfie became a hit on Twitter. #SelfieWithModi has been trending on the site since Wednesday morning.
