Narendra Modi and Salman Khurshid
New Delhi, Feb 26: Facing criticism from across the country, especially from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, Congress minister Salman Khurshid now gave explanation why he called Narendra Modi "impotent".

Justifying his shocking statement, Khurshid on Wednesday, Feb 26 refused to apologise to Modi and said, "What should I say if not impotent? Impotent means he failed to do what he was supposed to do. Modi was incompetent to stop the violence. He didn't have the capability to stop what happened."

Khurshid raised the controversy over 2002 Gujarat riot issue and claimed, "Modi was not able to stop his own minister, Maya Kodnani, from presiding over a massacre. He could not protect a mob which killed (former Parliament member) Ehsan Jafri."

The External Affairs Minister also asserted that he is not a doctor who examined the PM candidate of BJP. Rather he criticised the Gujarat CM who, according to him, failed to control the situation when more than 1200 people, mostly Muslims were killed during 2002 riot in the state.

Later cracking a joke, Khurshid also said, "If he (Modi) does not understand these words then I can send him a dictionary."

Khurshid, who is the sitting MP from Farrukhabad attacked Modi (without naming him) in a rally. He said, "Some people came, attacked and went, and you couldn't protect. Are you not a strong man? We don't accuse you (Modi) of killing people... Hamara aarop hai ki tum 'napunsak'(impotent) ho. (Our accusation is that you are impotent). You couldn't stop the killers."

While a few BJP ministers strongly criticized the remark, there were others who took turns in pitying the Congress. Narendra Modi' close aid Jay Narayan Vyas said, "They are so frustrated that they have lost control over their mind and tongue." He also referred to the Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's tea seller jibe.
