Naidu wants to promote Andhra Pradesh as medical hub

Visakhapatnam, Apr 10: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today sought cooperation from doctors and health professionals to make the state a medical hub in the country.

Inaugurating the 16th annual conference of Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India (SGEI) here tonight, he said, "I want to make Andhra Pradesh a medical hub and for that your help and cooperation is very essential."

He called upon doctors to serve the needy.

"There was a need to provide medical care to all. Doctors should put their efforts to serve the poor and needy people. Besides emerging as a medical hub, Andhra Pradesh, given the resources it has, can also become a prominent centre of education and tourism," he said.

Naidu further added, "40 per cent of the medical fraternity in the US is of Indian origin and among them 20 per cent is from Andhra Pradesh."

"I want to bring best practices and infrastructure in the state," he said referring to his previous stint as the chief ,inister (1995 to 2004) when he aggressively promoted the infotech sector and put AP on global IT map. Naidu said his aim was to make Andhra Pradesh one of the three best states in terms of growth by 2020 and No 1 by 2029.

Visakhapatnam will be promoted as a logistics hub on the east coast catering to the South-East Asian countries. A large number of physicians and media professionals from all over India and abroad attended the conference.
