The anti terror exercise which will last 10 days is being held at Kunming City this year.

The highlight of the exercise however this year is the engaging of 175 troops from the 2nd Battalion of Naga Regiment from Eastern Command.

Importance of engaging Naga troops

The engaging of Naga troops is an important decision that has been taken by the Indian government. Nagaland which faces a fair share of problems where terrorism is concerned would benefit largely from this exercise.

The Indian government has signed a pact laying the road map for peace in Nagaland and such an drill would benefit in the long run.

This exercise with China would help in better intelligence gathering and also help the Naga troops deal better with extremist outfits who are out to destroy peace.

Further more Nagaland has seen a lot of problems from outfits such as the NSCN(K) which recently violated the cease fire with India and carried out an ambush in Manipur in which 18 Indian soldiers were killed.

A press release from the Ministry for External Affairs states that troops from 14 Corps of China's Chengdu Military Region, which focuses on borders with India are taking part in the exercise.

Troops of both sides will undergo intensive joint training, which will include displays, demonstrations, and a comprehensive joint exercise.

The release also stated that the exercise would help develop joint operating capability, share useful experience in counter-terrorism operations and to promote friendly exchanges between the armies of India and China.
