Muslim women have '3rd class status' in Islam: Subramanian Swamy
On one hand PM Modi appeals the Muslim groups to end triple talaq and on the other BJP leaders rake up the issue by making controversial remarks against Muslim women.
New Delhi, April 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called the Muslim women to fight against the triple talaq, on the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy has made controversial remarks saying that the Muslim women have 'third class status' in Islam.
"There is no doubt that in Islamic practice and preaching women have been given second or third class status. Triple talaq, marrying four wives tradition are examples of that," Swamy told ANI.
He said that the "Islam religion permits men to commit atrocities against women." He added that the Muslim clerics may hide the fact but this is the reality of Muslim religion.
On Friday, Uttar Pradesh minister Swamy Prasad Maurya had said that "Muslim men resort to triple talaq to satisfy their 'lust' by changing wives". Maurya made this statement at BJP leader Jitendra Pal's residence in Basti for a personal event.
Maurya added that BJP is with Muslim women on the issue of triple talaq but claimed that Muslim law board has no provision on the issue.

"Where on the one hand, Muslim women are fighting for their injustice, Cabinet Ministers like Swamy Prasad Maurya are making such obnoxious statements. He should be given strict punishment and should be sacked from his post. I would appeal to Yogi ji to sent Maurya to a mental asylum," AIMWPLB president Shaista Amber told ANI, Shaista Amber added that the statement is very disturbing. She said that they (referring to Maurya) don't know Islam at all.
She warned that if Maurya won't apologise, the issue will be taken to the apex court if needed.
