Varanasi, Mar 25: At a time when a section of society and even liberals are criticising the BJP-led governments in states of Maharashtra and Haryana for imposing ban on beef and cow slaughter, a Muslim cow activist is busy spreading the message of cow protection by reciting 'Gau katha'.
As per a TOI report, Mohammed Faiz Khan from Raipur, has been advocating for cow rearing and conservation through lectures at different places for last two years after leaving the job of a lecturer.
"Cow is not only the mother Hindus, but, according to Veda she is the mother of all (vishwa mata)," the 34-year-old preacher was quoted as saying.
Faiz, a firm believer of Islam, has so far delivered about 200 lectures over importance of cow in schools and other institutions. He has also held as many as 15 Gau Katha in various states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh.
The long-pending Maharashtra Bill seeking a ban on cow slaughter received President Pranab Mukherjee's assent earlier this month. As per this new law anyone found selling or possessing beef, can be jailed for five years and fined Rs 10,000.
Following Maharashtra's ban several religious groups, free thinkers and film actors criticised the government for banning beef.
