Police today claimed to have solved the case of the murder of Neelam, wife of Vijay Sharma, the editor of Hindi daily, 'Swarajya Times', with the arrest of his nephew, Ashutosh Sharma Goswami. Agra SSP Shalabh Mathur told reporters that Ashutosh was held for questioning after Sharma had given his name to police as one of the suspects in the case.
Ashutosh told police that, along with an accomplice, identified as Ronny Massey, he had reached Sharma's residence on the night of February 20 while he was away. He entered Sharma's room and then forced Neelam to hand over cash and valuables at the point of a dagger.
Then, afraid that she would reveal his identity, Ashutosh allegedly stabbed her to death. He also allegedly stabbed Sharma's pet dog to death when he started barking at him. Later, Ashutosh and Ronny left hurriedly after a cousin of Vijay's arrived at the house.
Both accused are said to be in their 20s. The stolen valuables as well as the dagger used in the murder have been recovered, the SSP added.
