Multi-layered security grid for PM Modi's visit to J&K

Jammu, March 30: There will be a multi-tier security grid in parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the state to inaugurate a tunnel on the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, officials said on Thursday.

State police chief S.P. Vaid chaired a high level meeting here to review the overall security arrangements for Modi's visit to Udhampur during which he will also hold a public meeting.

The 9.2-km-long Chenani-Nashri tunnel will reduce the distance on the nearly 300-km road by 31 km.

Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh and MP Jugal Kishore will also accompany the Prime Minister.

According to an official statement, the police chief expressed satisfaction over the security plan and laid stress upon maintaining close coordination among the agencies to ensure an incident free visit of the Prime Minister.

"The DGP stressed upon the officers to sound alertness in the border areas and ensure round the clock patrolling. He asked them to raise vigil at vital installations including airport, railway stations and highways by continuous surveillance," the statement said.

"Intelligence grid has also been activated to gather information about the activities of inimical elements and the inputs are discussed with other sister agencies, the meeting was informed."
