Bhopal, Sep 20: In a shocking case of gross negligence, a road was constructed over a 45-year-old man after he fell into a pothole at under construction road in Madhya Pradesh.
The unaware labourers, reportedly, filled the pothole with hot bituminous material and rolled the road roller as it was dark, thus killing the man.
As per a TOI report, the deceased was identified as Latori Barman, resident of Khadra village, in Katni district.
The shocking incident took place on Friday night. The issue came to light when locals noticed a man's arm on the road surface in the morning.
As per police, the deceased was returning from a fair nearby his village when he halted at a liquor shop. His wife stayed at her parents house.
The police feels that Latori fell into the pothole under the influence of alcohol and got unconscious. It was dark and there were no warning signs either.
"The pit was uncovered for some time now. Traffic was also restricted on the stretch as the pit occupied more than half of the road making vehicular traffic and walking risky. Workers must not have noticed him there while filling the road with premix and bitumen, which subsequently led to his death," an investigating officer was quoted as saying.
The villagers were irked after the shocking incident came to light. They even blocked the road and cleared it only after senior cops assured action against the construction company.
Meanwhile, the body was exhumed and sent for autopsy. A case has been registered.
