MP: Priest rapes woman on pretext of exorcism

Bhopal, Feb 12: A temple piest in Madhya Pradesh rapes a 34 year old woman on the pretext of performing exorcism on her. The incident happened in Nishatpura in Bhopal.

The woman was a regular at the Singarcholi temple since the past 4 years. Just about a month ago, the priest Santosh Kumar Kaushik summoned her and said that she was possessed by an evil spirit and needed to perform a special prayer. He said that he would perform the puja himself at her home.

The priest, on arriving at her home, asked the husband (an auto-rickshaw driver) of the woman to go out of the house. In her complaint, the woman said that she fell unconscious when Kaushik started the puja. Later, when she regain her consciousness, she found herself naked and felt a pain in her private parts.

The priest threatened her if she disclosed the incident to anyone, she would have to face dire consequences. The woman, however, intimated the entire thing to her husband and both of them went to the police station to complaint against Kaushik.

The police has registered a case against the priest and efforts are on to nab him, who is on the run.
