According to a PTI report, the incident took place on Holi when local youths in an inebriated condition barged into the house of the family and began molesting a woman and her daughter. When the woman's husband protested, the perpetrators allegedly started thrashing him.

The victims approached the local police, who registered a case of assault but allegedly ignored several other charges. The family then tweeted to Adityanah's office and the DGP seeking stringent action. The local police received directions directly from the DGP office.
"I received a call from the DGP's office in Lucknow shortly after the man tweeted asking for help. I was told to promptly submit a report in the case. I personally visited the family and also arranged for their medical examination," Superintendent of Police (west) Sachindra Patel said.

The SP also confirmed that additional charges were taken up against the accused. The tweet also ensured that the family received protection.
