A police complaint has been filed against Sunny Deol and Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, the director of the movie. The duo have been accused of using vulgar language and expletives in the movie.
The complainant has been identified as Sarvajan Jagruti Sanstha, who alleged that dialogues of the movie do not only violate moral ethics, but it also shows Varanasi in poor light.
The social organization filed the complaint at Bhelupur police station on Sunday, June 21.
Speaking about the police complaint and the movie "Mohalla Assi", a complainant has been quoted as saying, "The film hurts religious sentiments and we cannot allow such a film to be released."
The film is based on a novel - "Kashi Ka Assi" - written by acclaimed Hindi writer Kashinath Singh. The film also stars Ravi Kishen and Sakshi Tanwar.
Sunny Deol plays the lead role of a Sanskrit teacher and an orthodox religious priest (Pundit) while Sakshi Tanwar plays his wife.
