At a time when the Dravidian party is facing a crisis like situation with its supremo J Jayalalithaa nursing her ailments in Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, for more than 40 days now, Modi government has openly lent its support.
According to reports, the BJP in association with the NR Congress will be supporting the AIADMK during the November 19 by-election, scheduled to be held at Nellithope Assembly segment, Puducherry.
The NR Congress is the political fraction that got separated from the Congress.
It will be a closely contested fight, as the AIADMK candidate, Om Sakthi Sekar, will be fighting the poll battle against the Congress candidate and Chief Minister of Puducherry, V Narayanaswamy.
In fact, this is for the first time the BJP has officially supported any candidate from the AIADMK.
Experts say it a "big" political development, especially at a time when Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa is in hospital.
As the opposition DMK is mounting pressure on AIADMK to reveal details about the exact nature of Amma's health conditions, Modi government's support comes as a huge relief for the ruling party in Tamil Nadu.
