Mentally unstable man strikes a deal with police: Drops suicide attempt after getting Rs 5,000
Bengaluru, June 10: This bizarre incident happened on Monday, but it is still doing circles in the cyber space. In a typical case of attempt to suicide, an unstable man struck an unusual deal with the police and firefighters who had come to rescue him from a tree top. After several attempts to convince him to climb down the tree failed, the police firefighters had to offer him Rs 5,000. THis move finally got him down.
On Monday afternoon, passerby near the TV tower of JC Nagar observed that a man had climbed a mango tree and was attempting to jump.
They called the police and the firefighters and the 3 hour drama began.
J.C Nagar police said,"We tried to convince the youth to get down the tree. But he was not coherent and communication was also difficult. The drama lasted for nearly three hours before he was rescued."
The rescue team had to take the help of a ladder to reach the youth and reason him. But it was said to be a difficult task as he threatened to jump off if anyone came close.
A member of the team said,"He said he has no money for treatment. We gave him Rs. 5,000 for his medical expenses and convinced him that we would get him treated. Only then did he come down."
The youth Mahesh (27) had mentally unstable and was being treated at Nimhans. His mother, a native of Mandya, said that he had left home without informing anyone. She also confirmed his mental condition.
