Navy on high alert in Mumbai as armed men spotted near Uran base
The Navy is on a State 1 alert -- the highest alert level -- after two schoolchildren reported that they had seen four men dressed in black carrying guns near an ammunition dump in the INS Abhimanyu naval base in Uran opposite Mumbai harbour.
The schoolchildren reported to their school that they had seen four men at around 7 am near the naval base. The men, said to be dressed in black pathan suits, had their faces covered and were speaking in a language the children were unfamiliar with.
The children also said they heard the men say "ONGC" and "school".
The school authorities immediately alerted the police about the same.
While the Navy is on the highest alert, a search for these persons is being conducted. Officials say that they are not taking the information lightly.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad, police and the navy have launched a massive search operation. All naval bases have been secured. A high alert has also been issued at all air force units.
Military bases across the country are on high alert since the Uri terror attack in which 18 soldiers were killed by terrorists from Pakistan.
There is already hectic activity by the army in the border areas where infiltration bids are being prevented. A few days back the army had killed 10 terrorists near Uri.
