Palakkad, Dec 22: Maoists seem to have intensified their activities in Kerala's Wayanad and Palakkad region, which were once the group's strongholds.
A TOI report said that the Maoist group attacked three different places in Palakkad and Wayanad districts on Monday morning. A 15-member armed group barged into the forest range office near Silent Valley forest area in Palakkad and burned the files and damaged computers and furniture, said the report. The incident took place at around 1:30 am.
No one has been hurt in the incident as the office was vacant at the time of attack. Allegedly, the group also torched a vehicle of the forest department parked in front of the office.
The report says that another group of seven persons attacked the outlets of KFC and McDonalds at Chandragiri in Palakkad city at around 7 am. The gang, in leaflets distributed to people in the area, described the act as fight against US imperialism. They broke the glass doors of the outlets. Two people have been arrested by the police.
The gang that attacked the forest offices had their faces covered. They pasted posters on the walls around the office urging the people to take up arms against the corrupt government. In leaflets, the group blamed the government for the pathetic condition of the tribal groups residing in Wayanad and Palakkad.
