Ex-law min HR Bhardwaj holds Chidambaram responsible for 2G Scam?

HR Bhardwaj
New Delhi, Nov 11: Indeed, bad times for the Congress party are round the corner, especially when few of its loyalists have turned their backs on them. Ex-law minister and Karnataka Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj, for instance, has trained guns at the Union Minister P Chidambaram of "not doing enough to stop the 2G scam".

Responding sharply at Chidambaram's accusation that the ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could have avoided the 2G scam had he cancelled all the licenses, Bhardwaj said,"Chidambaram is making a wrong statement. It was he who allowed this 2G scam, along with others from the DMK. The Prime Minister was insisting from Day One that it should be done in a transparent manner."

On pointing out that the then finance minister Chidambaram had written to the Prime Minster asking for the auction of spectrum, Mr Bhardwaj said,"Yes, it is true that he had flagged the issue of auction, but later on, settled it with a meeting with DMK ministers."

Although Chidambaram has not yet reacted to his statement, Bhardwaj joins the list of leaders who have criticized the UPA for their false moves during their tenure at the Centre. He also questioned Rahul Gandhi's leadership in the Congress. He also said that Priyanka Gandhi could be the best possible anchor for the sinking ship of Congress now. "I have no doubt that if she roams around, she can involve the masses and revive the party. She resembles her grandmother Indira Gandhi."

About Rahul, he said,"When I was in Karnataka, I saw Rahul is not capable of addressing a mass audience. He would meet 50 university and college students and leave. That's the basic difference." However, he quickly diluted his comments saying,"I have known him for a long time. Rahul Gandhi is a decent man, well educated. But he has to shape himself in such a way that he can take everyone along."
