Manipur: 8-year old brutally raped and murdered by neighbour

, Nov 7: An 8-year old girl was brutally raped and murdered by her 24-year old neighbour when she was on her way to deliver to her mother who was working in the nearby paddy field. The incident happened in Manipur's Imphal district. Following this, the neighbour was mobbed by angry villagers and was grievously injured.

Re-creating the entire story, police said that the girl was sent by her aunt to deliver tea to her mother when she was intercepted midway by her neighbour Chingangbam Samjai who raped her and later strangulated her. When the girl did not return from the field, her family started looking for her. The villagers too joined hands in helping them out. As the youths in the village were questioned, suspicion grew over Samjai.

When he confessed, the angry mob attacked him. He was later rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital where he was said to be serious. The villagers are reported to have lodged a complaint against Samjai at the police station yesterday. Investigations are on.
