Bengaluru/ Noida, Dec 15: A 35-year-old Muslim man decided to divorce his wife after four months of getting married and that too when she is pregnant, after citing the reason that she is "dark skinned".

According to news reports, the 26-year-old woman on Tuesday, Dec 15, filed a police complaint at Gautam Budh Nagar in Noida, against her husband, when he sent her a talaq via an email.

On Dec 5, she had told him that she is expecting a baby. The woman works as a research assistant at a Noida-based pharma firm and her husband is a software engineer in Bengaluru.

In her complaint, woman also claimed that her husband, a native of West Bengal, used to taunt her on her dark skin from the first day of their marriage and said that his preference was to get married with a "fair-skinned" girl.

She also alleged that her husband even slapped her and abused her verbally, several times, since their marriage.

"His family saw me before marriage. If he had a problem with the colour of my skin, he should have refused to marry me", she was quoted as saying to the TOI.

In November this year, she even shifted to Noida to again join her company.

However, her husband claimed that he sent her a talaq, due to her health condition, which her family had hidden before marriage, but his wife has refuted his allegations.

Meanwhile, her father-in-law said, "The decision to give a talaq (divorce) might have been taken in a fit of rage. I will talk to my son and urge him to reconsider."

But his son seems to be adamant on his decision and says that he is even ready to have a legal battle over the issue.

The woman's father said that his daughter is allergic to dust. That is the only health issue that she faces and maintained that his daughter's marriage was ruined only due to her dark skin complexion.

The duo came in touch in March this year through a matrimony site. Their wedding took place in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand at woman's native place.

Then, the she shifted to Bengaluru, as her husband works in the IT city.
