Mamata proposes, Manna's daughter disposes; body to stay in Bangalore
Bangalore, Oct 24: The demise of legendary singer Manna Dey has shocked one and all. From Sonia Gandhi to Manmohan Singh, all are mourning his death.
The Chief Minister of West Bengal, in particular, paid a tearful tribute to the singer. In a Trinamool Congress maidan rally in Chowrasta, the leader garlanded the picture of Manna Dey, commemorating his contribution to the world of music.
Banerjee had called up the daughter of Manna Dey to enquire whether his body could be flown down to Kolkata from Bangalore for the last rites. However, Sumita (Dey's daughter) refused saying that since her mother was cremated in Bangalore, her father's cremation too would take place there. Manna Dey's body was kept at the Rabindra Kala Bhavan for public viewing.
94-year old Manna Dey breathed his last at 3:50 am today at the Narayanan Hrudalaya Hospital. He is survived by his daughters Suroma and Sumita. His wife Sulochana Kumaran had passed away last year.
