Malda violence: BJP's fact finding team detained at West Bengal

Malda (WB), Jan, 11: The BJP's three member team to study the Malda violence has been detained in West Bengal. The three member team arrived at Malda this morning but were detained at the railway station this morning.

The BJP's team comprised S S Ahluwalia, B D Ram and Bhupendra Yadav. The three member team had been formed to study the violence that erupted in Malda, West Bengal last week. [Malda violence explained]

Malda violence: BJP team detained

On January 3 over one lakh Muslims took out a procession at Kaliachak, Malda district protesting a hate speech that was made in Uttar Pradesh. However things went out of control and the mob torched a police station and also several vehicles.

The West Bengal chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee however rubbished reports terming the violence as communal. She said that the violence was a result of clashes between the protestors and the security forces deployed. The Union Home Ministry had sought a report from the West Bengal government on the incident.

The BJP however decided to constitute a fact finding committee to study the reasons behind the violence.

The BJP constituted a three member commission. The team was to commence work today and had arrived at Malda when they were detained.
