The National Song penned by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee has become a subject matter of debate when a Kerala minister had said it was not compulsory. The Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party had urged that singing the song be made mandatory for schoolchildren.
