Major set back to KCR govt: High Court strikes down GO 123
Telangana, Aug 3: In a major setback to the Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao's government, the High Court on Wednesday struck down the GO 123 issued by the state government for acquiring lands for the irrigation and other projects.
The court said that the GO 123 do not provide any benefits to the landless poor who got affected due to land acquisition. The opposition parties in Telangana are opposing land acquisition to Mallanna sugar project proposed in Medak district under this act. Several petitions were filed in the High Court by farmers and farm labourers. Hearing into one of the petitions, the High court issued the orders striking down the GO 123.

The government had issued GO. 123 through which it made settlements for acquiring lands of farmers. On hearing the petitions of the Farmers from Rudrangi in Karimnagar High Cort issued the above orders.
The High Court also questioned the government on the need to bring out a new Act, when the Land Acquisition Act of 2013 was already there. The High Court ordered that the compensation must be given according to the Land Acquisition Act of 2013.
The Telangana irrigation minister Harish Rao said that government will act after examining the order of High Court. Opposition parties hailed the order of High Court on land acquisition policy.
