Mumbai, Aug 27: Sunil Paraskar, the senior police officer accused of raping and molesting a model was suspended on Tuesday.

The proposal had come from the home department and it was approved by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, said inside sources.

The source also revealed,"The proposal to suspend Paraskar was sent to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. The file regarding Paraskar's suspension was received this afternoon in the CM office and Mr Chavan has given approval to the action."

A Mumbai court had granted Paraskar a pre-arrest bail, based on the mals exchanged by the two, which reflected consent.

Paraskar filed a pre-arrest bail application on July 25, just a week after an FIR was registered against him by suburban Malwani police under sections 376(2)(rape by a police officer), 376 C (intercourse by superintendent of jail, remand home, etc) and 354(D) (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code.

The 25-year old model asserted that the 57 year old police officer had molested and sexually assaulted her in two occasions since December 2013. The duo had met in 2012 regarding a case. He was the Additional Commissioner of Police then.

Pointing at the delay in registering n FIR, Paraskar's lawyer argued that the allegations were false.
