Shailesh's name had cropped up in the multi-crore Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam scam, for allegedly fixing the recruitment of 10 candidates as Grade III teachers.

Veerpal Singh, an accused arrested in November 2014 in connection with the scam, had alleged that Rs 3 lakh in cash was given to Shailesh to ensure that 10 candidates from Bhind cleared the examination for contractual teachers.
