The list has many surprises - senior leader P Chidambaram is not contesting this time. Instead, his son Karthi Chidambaram will contest from Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu, which is Chidambaram's home turf.
Another senior leader Mani Shankar Aiyar will contest from Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu.
Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir.
Kirit Patel will contest against BJP veteran LK Advani in Gandhinagar and another senior leader Manish Tewari will contest from Ludhiana.
The party hasn't yet announced its candidate from Varanasi where Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is contesting.
