Lottery scam-bengaluru additional police commissioner suspended
Bengaluru, May 24: The Bengaluru Additional Police Commissioner Alok Kumar has been suspended after his name wad linked to the lottery scam in the state. The state government issued the suspension order after a detailed report by the Criminal Investigation Department was submitted to the home ministry.
The home ministry recommended the suspension of Alok Kumar following the report which blamed the officer for being directly involved in the scam and trying to shield the prime accused Pari Rajan.
What is the Lottery scam?
The Karnataka police had unearthed a major scam involving Rajan and others. These persons were running a lottery unit in the state. Lottery has been banned in the state since 2007.
It was found that they were printing lottery tickets and conducting a draw everyday. Some persons who lost money complained about the lottery being run. This had led to the police conducting an investigation into the scam.
During the probe it was found that several police officials. The report submitted by the CID took the names of four serving IPS officers and two retired officers.
