Updates: Goa records 83% voter turnout, says EC
Voting to elect new assemblies in five states kicks off on Saturday, with polling planned in seven phases starting February 11 for politically crucial Uttar Pradesh.
The counting of votes will take place on March 11. The Election Commission of India has made all the arrangements to ensure smooth , free and fair elections.
10.45 pm: Punjab voter percentage recorded at 78.62 per cent.
7.15 pm: 3500 polling stations had webcasting in Punjab. There were 2 crore voters.
1145 candidates in fray. Rs 58.02 crore of currency, 12.43 lakh litres worth Rs 13.34 crore liquor, 2598 kgs heroine, cannibis, worth Rs 18.26 crore was seized. 164.3 kgs gold and 26.5 kgs silver seized, says EC.

Punjab and Goa will vote in a single phase today. Uttarakhand will vote on February 15 while Manipur in two phases on March 4 and 8.
For the first time, ballots will carry photos of candidates. In all, some 160 million people will be eligible to vote in these five states.
